Any suggestion to running a e-business without ebay? I means anyway you think it's work. Any website of auction, eshop, AD on yahoo, Alibaba.... etc ??? I would retail & wholesale.

Thank you!

Hi,

eBay is still the biggest and most searched online marketplace - others don't even stand close (OK - Amazon is quite close:))

Anyway - the product sourcing is the biggest issue - not so much the actual marketplace to sell them.

You can visit http://ukauctionmaster.com/ - this guy's selling stuff on eBay UK and with good success. He's got loads of free advice to share as well if you just sign up on his website.

The hardest part of selling online (assuming you've already sourced good product) is finding potential buyers to put your products in front of.

Many people spend thousands on a website, and then wonder why they get no sales. It's like planning the best house party in the world, but then forgetting to invite anyone or tell them where you live!

That's why marketplaces like eBay, Amazon, Play.com and Pixmania are a great starting point - they do all the hard work and bring the buyers to the party - you just need to list your products and if they're good products that people want and your prices are competitive, you'll get sales almost instantly. With the exception of eBay, the other marketplaces are free to list on, so you only pay when you make sales - i.e. very low risk!

The company I work provides software to help retailers sell online in all these marketplaces and we see great success stories on eBay - with clients selling hundreds of thousands of pounds of products EVERY MONTH. The key is having good products and getting them listed in as many places as possible.

Here are some other good blogs / resources for you:

Good luck!

AuctionMaster, I think you're right that sourcing is the thing. I know if I could buy cheap enough it would be easy to make money on ebay. I've tried a couple of things out on there. One was buying antiques. The problem with that is nobody seems to want to pay for them at least not on ebay. As an example I have one item that has a sticker on the back from an antiques shop with £65 on it. I put it up for £15 and nobody wants it. It was the same with everything I tried to sell. It's fair to say that £65 is about right for what it is and someone will quite willingly go into a shop and buy it for that price but I can't get a fraction of that. Maybe it's a perception thing I don't know because I didn't have a shop or anything I was just seeing what happened with it.
