Ebay VAT

If I import from China and pay VAT on entry do I have to pay VAT again on ebay when selling?
I'm not VAT registered by the way.

As I understand, you don't pay VAT on entry, you may however pay import duties, but no don't have to pay VAT when you sell, you can charge VAT if you were VAT registered but as your not then no

If you are not VAT registered you will automatically be charged VAT by eBay on your eBay fees which you will pay to eBay.
If you were VAT registered you would have been able to claim it back.

If you import from China, you will get charged VAT by whoever delivers it - TNT, FEDEX, UPS Parcelforce, Royal Mail etc - you may or may not get charged import duty, depending on the declaration on the package. You will also pay a handling charge for them settling your tax/duty as a disbursement. I got a Fedex one today - Duty was 14.92, VAT 66.49 and what they call the advancement fee for processing and paying on my behalf, 10.75. You can scale up or down from this to work out how much you will pay. This was for electronics, which sets the duty rate.

I'm registered, so can claim the VAT back, if you are not, then you have to pay it and forget it!

Customs payment on imports consists of VAT, duty and normally a handling fee.

Unless you turnover more than the threshold of £77,000 or export your goods out of the EU, you shouldn't register if you are making a profit. You'll effectively pay 1/6th of your profit to the taxman. Plus there's the admin.
