Ebay Store Design.

I use Frooition and while they were good before the ebay changes to shops the designs now are not so good. Cost approx £800 for the design a couple of years ago. The system they use for uploading pics etc makes listing much faster than normal.

There is also another couple of companies out there. One is called www.dascs.com

I would question whether paying for an expensive store on ebay is even worth the outlay compared to using a standard design. Ebay has changed a lot, and the profit is a lot lower than in previous years.

If you decide to o ahead you also need to factor in revision costs, since ebay regularly change things, making eisting designs display incorrectly, which is costly if you use companies such as Frooition.

I would also agree it's a waste of money, I think buyers look at what you actually have in terms of quality information in the auction rather than how pretty it looks. Some of the frooition templates out there at the moment are dire, and I think this can have an adverse effect as well, depending upon what you are selling.

Anybody know of a designer that designs ebay stores.

There is a well known company but they charge way to much.

Listen - I think you need to "gen" yourself up on what it takes to design one. Any company who charge a large sum of money to design one are, in my opinion, quite frankly fleecing you.

I haven't sold on eBay for a number of years, and although I didn't have a store I did design very good looking ads which separated me from the crowd. It looks complicated to those not "in the know", but nothing could be farther from the truth.

In eBay listings, you can either enter text, or HTML code. I assume this is the case with an eBay store. HTML code is what web desigers use to design websites, and the same code will affect the looks of your eBay store.

So what if you know nothing about HTML? Get a student to do it for you perhaps? Give him a few quid as beer money. Or, you could hire a web designer in India from a freelancing site like elance. This is not exploitation, there is no need to pay hundreds of pounds for some simple HTML coding that is basic knowledge for web designers.

I agree with you that it is a waste of money (see my post above), but I don't agree that having a store designed is a waste - if it is designed properly. The fact remains that many business people and also designers don't have a clue about marketing.

You mention quality of information in your post - you have hit the nail on the head - but the way that information is presented is also important. A store/advert that differs from the standard design communicates professionalism and seperates you from the crowd. But the design does need to be "clean" and not too flashy - that just ends up as a distraction for the consumer. In my opinion it should have the following qualities;

1) Professional looking design - this will give the consumer confidence.

2) Provide all the information the consumer needs to make the decision to buy. This can include for example, a statement regarding your customer service policy - give the consumer confidence that if they hit the buy button not only will they receive their purchase quickly, there won't be any problems and even if there are any problems you will put them right faster than you can say your name.

3) Present all this in a clear way. I have seen people on eBay add animated graphics to their adverts which serves no purpose other than to p*ss the reader off and to distract then from the content of the ad.

The customer is king. Pure and simple.
