ebay rivals

Projects to rivel ebay have been proposed before, but always auction sites. How about an alternative to ebay's relatively recent 'buy it now' feature? An online trading place where merchants can sell their wares at fixed prices.

Amazon and ebid are two that spring to mind, Amazon sellers' fees are steep though!

Is this not what eBay Express does? Although I know that items on there have to be brand new. Also, sites like eBid and Tazbar have the BIN feature available. And there's Amazon and GreenMetropolis (books).

I think the problem with any eBay competitor is that eBay has the buyers and sellers. The buyers won't switch to another site unless the majority of sellers do, and the sellers can't afford to switch to other sites instead of eBay because they'd be leaving the buyers behind.

I'm an ex-eBay PowerSeller and this is part of the reason why I stopped doing it.

What is your status now on eBay?

eBid and Tazbar are a waste of time, try them but gave up after a month.

My account is still active and my feedback still there, but you have to mantain sales volume to remain a PowerSeller and I haven't sold anything on there for months, so it's just a usual account.

I tried eBid and Tazbar as well and at one stage was quite hopeful because so many sellers left eBay, bit eBid refused to advertise and Tazbar didn't seem to have much response to their marketing campaign.

I sell on ebay and a little on amazon and ebid but I am trying to move away from auction sites on onto my website. Hard work though to get visitors.

Stick with it Kelly - visit the eBay Business Board; there are lots of people on there who are having more success on their own ecommerce sites than through eBay.

Ebay express should have been the answer for business sellers, unfortunately it has been left out in the cold and not developed into the service it should have been.
Just my opinion, but I think that ebay should have split into 2 distinct sections, the auction side- for second hand, and the shops side - for new goods/businesses only.
Ebay was my way in to business selling, but they are forever changing the goalposts and making it damn near impossible for small scale shops like myself to carry on.
I have got a new website and will give it 12 months to get somewhere, if nothing happens then, who knows?
BTW, if you do venture onto the ebay business boards , I will be the one ignored by the rest of the clique. I think I have upset one of the regulars and now the nasty comments are creeping in.

There policies are a little harsh especially when it comes to software. They say that we can't sell OEM software without a piece of hardware, rubbish. A system builder can sell OEM software to another system builder, we had an account which was closed by them because of this policy.

We were not to use that account and if we wanted to trade to open another account. We opened another accoun and hardly use it.

 

Stick to your own website, much better than ebay. I can't sell toys on ebay as they are banned by my suppliers or they just won't sell at the right price.

I sell on ebay and its not bad. I would say stick to ebay but have a look around on having your own site too. I got a ebay store, it doesn't require much work anymore just raking in the money. But i'm starting up my own website too. Tahts goign to take a while though. Because having your own website will take time to build up your trust and customers. Advertising is a pain and it will cost money, esp if your product prices aren't like super low.

I used ebay, ebid and tazbar. I don't bother with ebay as a lot of my suppiers now don't like it.Ebid was a complete waste of time and effort.Tazbar ticks over but nothing great.My site is startting to do really well but it has been hard work and still loads more to do to make it a success. I have also noticed other sites where you upload your listings but customers are taken direct to your site when they click on them.These tend to charge a flat rate upfront and they feed into other websites.Thepeoplesweb is one of them.I am sur yahoo do something but I nearly passed out when they sent me details of their fees!

I started my business on ebay then set up my website and managed to give up ebay within 7 months (that was last year).
Sales were slow earlier this year so I went back to ebay in April, what a waste of time! I think I'd rather find another way of selling than go back to ebay! My fees matched my sales Anyway sales have picked on the website, so ditched ebay again.

Saying that, I buy stuff on ebay every now and again

I know quite a few regular ebay sellers who are fed up with the high fees and are experiencing a drop in sales, they can't wait to leave (once they earn enough from their website). I think the ebay bubble may have burst......

Seriously though looks good, good idea for the people bit.Is it all about jobs then? Might be woth adding some useful links or info on how to create good cvs.
If you get stuck try the jobcentres own website.It has tips on how to do cv and interview techniques etc
