I also went to send a 4kg parcel they wanted £14!! I was so shocked I went on my hermes they charged me £5.52

what is the cheapest way to send small parcels like games?

I had something similar happen last week - paid for an eBay postage label, then took the item to the post office, only to be told that I had to pay for postage again as the item wasn't covered by Royal Mail (it was jewellery). So I paid a total of around £12 on postage for a parcel that weighed less than 1kg and that I sold for £30, so my total profit was £15 (after eBay took their cut).

I think the best thing to do is make sure you know the terms and conditions for the item you're sending (insurance etc), and once you've sent one item, you know roughly how much it's going to cost to ship, so make sure you're covering your postage in the cost of the item. Don't listen to eBay's quotes on items - get yourself to the post office, and see if they can give you a quote for how much it will cost to send the item, then make sure you charge enough to cover this.

Unfortunately, with used goods like games, you're not going to get much for them selling on eBay as you're just going to end up paying for postage.

a computer game should be less than 2.5cm thick so should be large letter, so less than £1.20 2nd class

If you sell through Ebay you need to check prices through the Royal Mail Price Finder
royalmail com/price-finder
The best thing to do is to pack the products before you do this as often you will get stung on the volume rather than the true weight.

Royal mail is getting dearer and dear indeed. I am not using it for anything else than international shipping. If I want to send anything within UK, I go to parcel2go website and book a courier. Shipping the game using Hermes, or any other courier shouldn't be an issue, as long as is is safely wrapped in a bubble wrap, and in a strong cardboard box - make sure it is filled up, so the content doesn't rattle - it might do some damage in transport. I only use Hermes drop off point service - it is the cheapest, you can drop it off in your nearest collection point, parcel2go will provide you with the list of your nearest points.

This depends on the size and value of the item, although most complain of high royal mail prices, for things like large letter and small packet size you will struggle to beat them on price. for heavier items my hermes is a cheap option but be warned they leave parcels where they like and trying to claim for loss in a nightmare when it happens. For larger items that you aren't sending many of you could use a shipping agent to check the best price such as interparcel. this lists lots of couriers based on your information you supply and gives you the option to choose which best fits your needs.

I'm assuming you mean ebay suggested a shipping price and you didnt change it? This I would NEVER do and I always use my own price, you can find a price guide on royal mail and remember to add 15% to cover what ebay and paypal take out of your shipping money too.

Hi - I'm Siobhan from My Parcel Delivery

Have you tried a parcel delivery price comparison website? Depending on the size of the parcel and whether you are sending your parcel within the UK or abroad you could make significant savings compared to the Royal mail. We suggest looking for a site that links with eBay too as you can save time when you are getting quotes.

This doesn't happen with Hermes any more than it happens with any other courier. I've only had two instances of parcels being mis-delivered by Hermes in over 1000 deliveries, and I had no problems claiming for them.

In fact, I've had more issues with UPS than with Hermes.
