Ebay,Ebay,Ebay,junk yard

Ebay the scourge of honest business.

Ebay the junk yard of the world.

Ebay the scammers paradise.

Ebay and there partner site Paypal ripping off the general public.

Have had the cheek to displace one of my sites in the SERP's by 1 place.

Now are we going to let Ebay this refuge for every trickster known to mankind get away with this, are we F**k.

So they think there big.?

I like Ebay, today I had delivered a Dell Monitor stand which normally would have cost me £40+ for £18 delivered.

It's the only place I can source rare parts for my old motorbike at excellent prices.

My lad has almost completed his Dr Who Battles In Time card collection due to Ebay.

Long live Ebay. :)

eBay the multi-million dollar business that might as well be the biggest drug dealer in the world - They take most of the money you earn, if I had my own bidding site it'd be a whole lot different, average auction for a car as below:
Normal little scrap car start bidding at 99p - Costs £1
Bids up to £125 - Costs £22
Buyer pays by paypal - Costs £3
You then buy something else on eBay which in the end eBay end up getting £10 for it.
Thats £36 for doing absoloutley f**k all. They well and truly take the biscuit.

I have to say, that although Ebay sellers pay via fees that they think are expensive, Ebay sellers by definiton, can then side step accountability, VAT, Insurances, Income Tax, premises and all the other overheads that go with running a proper business so perhaps the Ebay fees work out quite cheap in the big picture of things;)

Wrong, after a while the tax man comes after you!

In the end all get caught, it's hard to avoid really remember you have to have a business and need to trade to a certain amount. But you can't avoid anything in your small list. Apart from income tax which I'm not too sure about.

Yeah, spose so. Anyway, back to the thieving bar stewards. Has anyone had or seen bad reviews about Paypal? It's gone crazy, until about a week ago when a disput was opened the money instantly went back to the seller! And I sold something on eBay the guy paid I sent it to him and he cancelled the payment! Then my account got put on limited access and then they didn't pay the small deposits into my account! After 3 weeks I've completed all the tasks to remove limitations and they are just saing 'In Review' phoned them twice to get nowhere.

They need big time competition to get them down, I'd love to see them crash and burn after so long.

Last year i made a lot of money buying 3G data cards and modems in bulk from ebay, unlocking them and reselling them individually on ebay with a 500-800% markup. Due to different data pricing, Vodaphone cards could be had for £10-20 and T-mobile cards were selling for around £70-80.

Without ebay this wouldnt have been possible. I think lots of people actually search on ebay before they even check Google.

But yes, if you are looking at regular profit margins, ebay/paypal fees are a complete joke. most of your profit goes on fees.

I tend to buy quite a bit on ebay, there are less bargains than their used to be, but there are still a few to be had. i found a top spec 6 month old Dell D420 and won with a bid of £200! I also bought a sony erricson gift set for £5, gave two of the items away as christmas presents and sold the third item for £30 the next week. Dont tell my girlfriend though!

You just have to know what you're doing.

If you have a computer console, mobile phone, dvds, cds, old furniture or anything you have in your house taking up space then ebay is fantastic. Lets face it what else would you have done with all this junk except bin it. So there are a couple of fees, but as the old saying goes 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

As a business its pants. You would be better off with your own website and a merchant account. However, everyone knows Ebay and you would have to spend a ton of money to get a fraction of the traffic.

People have used ebay to try and build lists and sell to them outside ebay, but ebay has changed the rules for people using digital content to build a user list. You can not list anything that can be downloaded. Great!! Who reads ebooks any way.

Now, ebay are changing the rules again. Soon sellers will not be able to leave negative or neutral feedback. Wonderfull!! So now all the time wasters and fraudsters can run riot without anyone being able to warn over sellers by means of negative feedback.

Like I said in my first post, ebay is great for selling junk, which you would have binned any way. I'm not saying you can't use it as a business, but with all the fees that ebay and paypal are charging, the next to no margins from droppshippers (If thats your thing) and the fact that ebay are always moving the goal posts you may have to get a little more creative with the worlds largest flea market.

Well rather than complain about it find somwhere else to promote your business. Whatever we say on this forum is not going to make a blind bit of difference to the fees Ebay and Paypal charge.

The thread says ebay, junkyard and a lot of people sell junk on ebay. If you want to put your business on it that's totally up to you. You know the fees and you know the alternatives and the associated fees, so stop moaning.

.

Thats a somewhat defeatist attitude. If companies don't know what people are complaining about, then no they won't change.

But I am sure this thread is being monitored by someone at Ebay and no company likes bad press.

The one thing about the web is that the little man can be heard ,as it reaches parts other methods can not.Possibly government sources are having a think about how much revenue is being lost also.

Exactly, people will search google, see this thread, tell their friends, post it on other forums including eBay forums then maybe eBay will see it!

I reckon there is a snobbery associated with ebay, it is just another route to market, and although I disagree with some of the changes they have made recently I understand the reasons for making them, ebay is in the process of trying to become more like amazon in it's approach.

The main reason for using ebay is the enormous traffic, until people uncover other ways they will continue to use it.

There are many scammers on ebay, but there are many decent companies and small traders as well. As for evading the tax comments, well, I'm sure no businessman would ever try to do that, surely?? :D

HMC&R have all the details of all Ebay Powersellers.
So they, at least, will be liable to taxes & vat which other business operators are after. If you're a powerseller, HMC&R deem you to be a trader!
So that's one group of sellers called to account.

My understanding is that they do more than that and have software that is monitoring every sale etc and have done for some years.

But my guess is that they are then understaffed and under funded to then do much about it except at the higher levels. They are also more liable to try and stop than press for a prosecution but I could be very very wrong on this score. After all they have an investigator dream a full set of records!

Ebay is still very new and it will settle down as the market becomes more mature.

Depending on how and what you trade the problem and attitude varies. Other online sellers may hate ebay. But then the bricks and mortar folk hate the online sellers and the little shops hate the big shops and on it goes.

Ebay is not going to go away - but I wish it would - as well as the online sellers and the ....

In truth I'm selling a little on ebay but in the main I've found it most useful for converting search terms from my fumble-fingered laymens speak into the technical terms I required.

Along the way I've acquired a manufacturer who was selling on ebay but had a business offline that provides me with the very custom clips I required, another company in the US that provide some tubing parts I need and more.

It's not ALL bad but the key thing with it is always to have your whits about you and a decent pricing plan. Why on earth would anyone sell on there to make a loss?
