The ebay discussion boards are very good. With ebay you sort of have to play it by ear as they always seem to be making changes and trends change very quickly. Its a good idea to have your own website which will attract more serious and b2b business.

Hi Andy

Register as a Business Seller on ebay and don't forget to let HMRC know ;), read the community boards, there's some fab advice there from time served sellers. Google an ebay blog called Tamebay, good unbiased ebay advice there too.

As for accounts, I use a web based app for my eBay accounts by the name of Outright, set up by eBay sellers it is a free US based secure site that auto downloads everything from Paypal and ebay automatically for you so at the end of the month you just download the info to CSV (spreadsheet) I've been using it now for about 3 months and find it saves loads of time. It is an eBay site recommended via the eBay.com tools platform.

I think the best advice would be to familiarise yourself with the DSR (Distant Selling Regulations) many ebay shops and other online buinesses don't follow the law when it comes to this and have things like 'I'm not responsible for items lost in the post' and they don't show their geographical location etc so it's worth checking that out so you comply with the law from the off.

As you may already know, customer service is king now on eBay and the way the feedback system is set up, bad Detailed Seller Ratings (stars) now disadvantage you in Best Match search (that's why it is important to leave the star ratings for a seller) and will give you a lower place in the search.

I wish you the best of luck :).
