EAN Numbers

Hi all,

Question from my other half - she sells pet products online and is wondering where to get hold of EAN numbers?

Is there a place to buy these in the UK cheaply?

Or a place to generate them?

Are you looking to use internally, in which case just make them up i.e. 1, 2, 3 if you are looking to use on products to retail globally you will need to get your own unique identifier number.

No - they need to be for global retail.
How do we go about getting unique identifier numbers?

To be honest I know very little about these EAN numbers, just that we need them & some sites offer them but there's a huge range in price....

GS1 is a good place to start. They are the place in the UK to subscribe to EAN/UPC barcodes.

You can also purchase them from elsewhere.

The barcode will be the identifier for the product, so it needs to be placed on each product with each variation.

Some companies use one barcode for all product variations but that gets complicated e.g. pink soap, red soap.
