Hi Newby here.

I know that this is an often asked question but I have searched the forums here and can't find the exact answer.

I would like to set up an e-shop. I have a standard website with one and one that is due to expire. I would like to transfer my domain names to an e-shop provider. The e-shop needs to be simple to set up (Shopify looked good until I saw the Liquid programming thingy) I need to be able to accept payments by credit ard, Paypal etc. Stock control, optimised for mobile etc. I have a budget of about £30 sterling per month.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Adam

Hi Toonman,

Magento Go
is a great ecommerce solution for small businesses. It is a "software as a service" solution starting at £9.99 per month. This plan includes all features. They offer a 30-day free trial and you can cancel your subscription anytime.

Do not hesitate to contact me by pm if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Anthony

Hi Adam,

Take a look @ Big Commerce:

I have used Prestashop

its is open source (free) with a very good support forum

I think with any e commerce site you need to allow for some time to learn how it really works so you can take full advantage of their capabilities.

I host with TSOhost.co.uk for some £15pa. Thier support is very good - you can talk to a human.

My site is justdogwalking.com if you want to see how the standard prestashop looks.

Your question is a good one. And their is not a simple answer, and experienced e-commerce people will know that.

There are a number of options, from cheap, or even free, downloaded systems, to bespoke, high function, high resiliance solutions. Most of these solutions are, in fact fine - they do work. But they work differently.

The first thing to do, is to ensure you are clear on the core things you want your shop to achieve. Then you need to understand what kind of budget you wish to apply to the shop - that is crucial for you to know up front. Buy the best you can afford!

In addition a key choice will be whether or not you are going to build this yourself, in which case you will need to review different choices, or whether you are going to get a web-site company to do it for you. If the latter, they will be willing to sit down and guide you through the whole selection thing. If they are not, you have the wrong website company in front of you.

I'm with EKM at the moment. I've found them to be very helpful and you can make a pretty decent site. I'm not very good with the technical stuff but they give you enough scope to customise your site without drowning in detail. I am thinking of changing though just because of the price. £24 a month is quite a lot for me as my business is more of a hobby at the moment.
If anyone can recommend some other options that would be useful. I tried site maker through names.co.uk. It looks like it could be great but it was so complicated to use I just gave up.
Anyone have any thoughts on Big Cartel?

Hello again

I have eventually signed with EKM and had my Domains moved over to Hostingit. So we shall see how it goes. Leo from Installingit (see his post on here) has been very helpful.
Thanks for the input everyone.:)
