E-commerce solution for online vintage store

Hey All,

Firstly apologies if this question has been answered already.

Would anyone be kind enough to provide me with names reputable of e-commerce platforms that cater for the vintage market place.

Due to the nature of the business I have a lot of stock that varies in shape and size and usually all my products one off items, I am having a huge problems maintaining my online store and I was wondering if there is a better way of working.

I don't know if you will find an ecommerce solution which caters for vintage market place directly but a tailored ecommerce solution would work fine for this.

What platform are you currently on and what are the issues?

Thanks for reply finley design, not using a dedicated platform as such is there anyway I can find out? I think its just looks like HTML

There are literally hundreds of ecommerce platform which could suit your business, eg for supporting clothing products. Any half decent system would be more than capable!

From the nature of what you then a stock control facility will be essential so items that you only have one of can be automatically removed from display once they have been sold.

Obviously anyone selling one offs has a massive maintenance headache as they will need to create a new product and images for each item, so ease of product creation would be an obvious area to look at.

Ecommerce solution for vintage store is that you should make website in Magento format because it is good platform for product sites today. Magento website design and product specification can be changed easily by admin time to time.

Someone with not much experience of e-commerce platform would find it difficult to manage and maneuver. Wordpress along with Woocommerce would be a great platform for a novice. Also, wordpress would be able to handle the the requirement of a vintage market place.

A former colleague is in a similar situation and I believe uses Wordpress, or at least he was advised to when he was starting out for the points mentioned above - it can handle your needs and is user friendly enough.

Check www.ecwid.com, hosted solution. You will be amazed how easy it is. It can be set-up within minutes.

I work for an inventory management company, and most of our customers like Shopify or WooCommerce as they're pretty easy to set up and manage. I personally like Squarespace because I find it looks nicest and is the easiest to customise. Have you tried looking at Etsy? I know there are plenty of vintage sellers on there, but I'm not sure if it work work for a large inventory. Worth a look though.

I'd be inclined to suggest something like WooCommerce, as that'll give you far more flexibility than a packaged, hosted solution. That, combined with a decent web developer, and you'll have something that fits your business in the manner your post indicates.

If you do go down that route it may well be worthwhile having a discussion about how you plan to accept payments on that solution (e.g. PayPal or Credit/Debit Cards), as that may incur additional costs in development and from your merchant depending on which method(s) you're using.

I'd personally suggest Magento. It's a full ecommerce solution, and it's free too! They have plenty of features that should be perfect for what you're looking for. You just need a web host such as WebHostingBuzz who will host the website files for you.

It does not sound like the shopping cart per se is the problem; it is the overhead in adding a completely new item every time you add an item. Is that right?

I sell one-off items too (vintage home decor) so i can understand your situation. I use shopify, they're pretty straightforward, have got clean product templates, where you just put a text and images (and can also copy products, which is even easier, and then apply required changes instead of creating a new product). I cannot praise these guys enough, platform perfect for anyone planning to sell online.

It's niche so Shopify/Volusion/BigCommerce or Prestashop for a little more growth.

Etsy is great for vintage sellers - the site has loads of vintage/craft sellers. WordPress/WooCommerce are also options you could consider if you're not looking for something pricy.
