dual core vs 2x zeons

This is probably a long shot but it might help win a lunchtime "discussion" about rearranging our studio ! . . . if you had the choice of a dual xeon 2.8ghz or a 1 x Pentium D - Dual Core 3Ghz Socket 775 CPU workstation(both with the same memory) which would you use for image editing in photoshop ???

A Xeon is not much faster, and in many cases not any faster at all, than a consumer version (Pentium or Core2) of the same generation with the same clock speed (the GHz number). For example, a Xeon 5150 is a dual-core 2.66GHz chip that is about equal in speed to a 2.66GHz Core2 Duo E6700.

There's so many different factors involved tho.
Yes you have core speed, but what about the cache, bus speed etc.
With out exact CPU model numbers it's not really a fair fight

But if it was me, i would go for the Xeon. There's something about the name. Sound better when bragging about what's inside

I would always go for a Xeon but that is me, the other good thing is that you can install a second Xeon if you wish as the motherboard usually support for two processors.
