Hi all,

I've finally decided to test the waters in dropshipping, i have done alot of research and have noticed that alot of the dropshipping 'sites' or 'databases' online are scams.

I heard good things about Esources but then also heard just about as much bad things!

Does anyone know of any good, trustworthy Dropshippers online?
Also, i will be needing an Ecommerce site so if anyone could help with that i would be greatful.

A lot of dropship retailers end up being a ramshackle mix of products that are entirely dependent on whatever their dropshipper has available. I think you are looking at things the wrong way. You should start by thinking about what you want to sell, what sort of retail business you want to be and then look for suppliers who are prepared to dropship. There are a lot of manufacturers who sell direct to the public and through retailers. Some of these will dropship if you ask.

I'm pretty sure that the vast majority are not scams. However, caution is good when dealing with new companies of course. There are some very popular forum/community sites focussed on drop shipping which could help you out.

Hi gormo7,

Welcome to UKBF!

As for dropshippers, it would help if we knew which area of products you are looking at so as to suggest potential suppliers. Are you looking at a particular niche?

Before you start using a dropshipper make sure you ask them a series of questions that determine how they control the flow of their stock. One of the most common problems of using a dropshipper is stock control, in that, you could offer something for sale to your buyer, and then left without fulfilment should your dropshipper be out of stock. It's a risky model and few companies operate totally smoothly but there are a few gems out there. You're welcome to stop by our dropship forum for additional advice or reply to this thread if you would like any help on finding potential suppliers.

All the best!

I agree completely. Decide what kind of business you want to be, the kinds of products you want to sell and take it from there.
Setting up an online business to make profit requires a lot of hard work. It isn't as simple as selecting a Dropshipper, advertising their products, making sales and banking the profits!
I think it is better to set up your own e-commerce website, hold and manage your own stock and build relationships with your customers.
I have a couple of suppliers who do Dropship for me, but I only use this facility as a fall back if I have a few orders for stock that I run out of. This is because I trust the suppliers and it is quicker to fulfill the order this way.
I think it is better to build a business rather than trying to find a way to make some cash. Hope this helps!

Col.

This is great advice, also try and make it something you know about/have an interest in so that you can answer customers questions with confidence and enthusiasm.

The problem with dropshipping is that everyone can access them easily online so its hard to be competitive on price.

The best drop shipping deals that you can make will be the one's below the counter, the ones that others cannot easily find :)

Of course to do this you will have to work harder to find them and be prepared to call companies up to see if tehy will work with you.

You can have more success locally...

For instance you can strike up deals with local manufacturers to you if there is a demand for the product. It's surprising what exsists like that locally when you start looking :)

Some small local buisnesses have no clue how to sell online and would love the opportunity to work with you if you can get them more sales.

Thanks
Lynne

Hi,

I tried the water with DVD dropship but it was a con. The main reason i tried it out was because they had a template online store for DVD's with all the latest DVD's including new Harry Potter DVD's but when you got your own store the titles of the DVD's where from about 10 years ago and was very limited.

Is that the same kind of thing where you can't even alter the template to suit your style/needs?. I had one for a (very short) time and the back end was so limited to what you could do
