Reason for drop in ranking. My website seems to have dropped significantly in terms of it's ranking.

For instance I was on page 4 for letting agents liverpool and now I am now page 28!

Here's some things which occured, just wondering what is most likely to have affected it.

Developer linked blog and website, put kept blog listed for a period of time (mistake), so there was duplicate content

Linking of blog and website

I stopped the automatic linking feature on website to facebook

General google changes.

Any thoughts appreciated. Website is www.potential2lettings.co.uk

You have 5 linking domains according to Majestic. How can you expect to rank for anything at all when you have no links?

Start link building and you should hopefully see some improvements, assuming you haven't been penalised for something completely different.

When did it drop? It will most likely return in a few days. Doubt you will have been penalised for anything you listed above.

Although it does look like you have some technical issues with some internal links pointing to potential2lettings.jonbieri.com rather than your main website. Those now redirect to your main one. As well as some Wordpress mobile site plugin that creates weird URL's.

You were on Page 4 anyway, so not really a big difference between that and page 28, nobody goes that far down the listings.

In all honesty your website is terrible visually and in terms of an SEO perspective.

Web design is indeed crucial and as there is a new Google update on the horizon you could be leaving yourself in a position where you may fall even further. While link building is dropping in importance compared to content writing and social media, it is important to build some good links (all pointing in the same direct) on high-ranking pages. While your ranking may come back, take your recent drop as a warning from Google!

I would recommend you take these steps:

- use opensiteexplorer.org to compare in bound links and social signals vrs your competitors (note by competitors I mean sites ranking top 3 for the search terms you are targeting).

- get a free trial of SEOMoz.org - and run your site through a crawl - and rectify any / all major problems flagged.

- You MUST register your business on Google Places (and Google+ Local - soon to be merged). This is critical for local search. Try to harvest positive reviews.

- You MUST register your business on a range of local and UK national business directories.

- You MUST get active on Google+. We are finding this make a HUGE difference.

- You MUST post at least one article per week (highly relevanty, good quality, unique content) on your site / blog. Google loves content. Make sure you Tweet, FB, G+, Social Bookmark etc... the post when you publish!!

Hope this helps - drop us a message if any questions.

The enter your town name function on your site is not well placed, its partially covering an image, so even if you were ranking, i cant see you converting the traffic based on the asthetics of the site currently. Also when its submitted, it links to nothing of interest - its just a header page with a homepage link.

Next: There are 720 exact match searches for your keyword "letting agents liverpool" so being on page 4 would not be sending much, if any traffic to your site - i notice you have clicky set up - are you getting reports on where your traffic is coming from??

I would advice getting a site professionally redesigned so when you do actually rank well the visitors will convert, employ an SEO company to work on your rankings, and seek some advice on how to set up a PPC campaign to feed you some enquiries immediately.

I agree with this and would add that this site has spelling errors, looks different in different browsers and there are more errors in programming code than enough, to boot. You also need to remove the spammy links at the bottom of the page.
Hope that helps
