I saw a really helpful blog on this that answered all my questions a while back. I can't find it now. I think someone on here linked to it.

One thing I can't remember is what happens when more than one person requests the same domain with the same drop catcher.

First come first served sounds very fair. I don't think it's common practice though. afaik, when more than one person is interested, the domain will be auctioned off to those that had registered their interest in the domain.

The procedures on which potential new owner gets to the bidding stage may differ from one drop catcher to the other.

We strictly operate first come first served . No auctions

do you know if detagged and caught are both first come first served? and if a service is first come first served and you're not first, do you get told you can't register for a domain before you pay?

The first come first served is our system for example

MR X books xyz.co.uk on 9/10/10 @ 2pm then
MR Y asks to book xyz.co.uk at 2.10pm

We would reply to MR y and say its unavailable.(Mr X has booked it). You must be verified with us or otherwise you will need to deposit £5.88 which is refunded if we don't catch your domain or if we do then its put towards our £30 catching fee.

I hope that clears up the confusion .

Ceco, I don't see drop catching on your site. Do you have some sort of snazzy software for catching?

Is one drop catcher better than another? I heard that small drop catchers are more effective than the larger ones. Any truth in that?

Yes small catches are well suited they have a smaller number of clients and only accept x number of bookings etc.
