Drive D: Error

Hi all

would anyone recognise this error, it's been happening when I'm trying to access my backup CD - yes, the backup :0

Drive D: on your computer does not have a recognizable file system.

Am I right in assuming your D: drive is your CD/Optical drive?

How do you create your backups, do you use a particular software or do you just copy the files?

I just copy, never worked out how to back up properly as it never works for me - i know, naughty.

I copy to two CD's but this is the latest version

Hey hun;

Would you be able to take your backup CD to another PC and see if it is able to read it?

Does your PC read other CDs ok?

(just to eliminate the CD Drive hardware problem)

Hi,

I know it doesn't help in this case, a future suggestion might be to use an external hard drive to backup your files next time. Most come with pre-built backup software. The first time you plug it into your PC, either let the software decide what to backup (Docs, emails, music, etc) or manually decide what folders/files to backup. After that, everytime you plug the external hard drive in, it backs up the most recent files.

unless it's a bad disk my guess would be...

the computer's a few year's old.... dust has formed (on the laser, or shaft the laser sits on)

this is causing read errors (have you tried another disk in the same drive? does it work ok?)


are you using RW's or R's?
