My company willbe shown on Dragons Den tomorrow night wednesday 22nd july at 9pm. What do you think i should be doing to maximise this marketing opportunity? Our company is The Whole Leaf Co. and we sell ecofriendly disposable tableware. All input would be much appreciated!!:D

The bloke that had the kiddy pull-along suitcase got a mauling in the den, and didn't come off from it too well immediately after. But he did really well in the "where are they now" programs later.

If you got investment then fine, plug it to hell and back. If you didn't get investment then I would ask have you seen the edit before you go directing all your existing customer to watch it. It's TV and editing for entertainment, some cuts are all about exploiting the entertainment value so that even when a product is still good, the perception created is not all positive.

Judging by the grin it went well? if it went well then shout about it... "as seen on dragons den" - worked for trunkie and that baby blanket pinnie thing... and they didnt get investment!

I'd see if you can watch it and then pull it off youtube or something for your site?

Like others have said, it does depend on the outcome of the show although the Dragons' Den hook generally works for most of us business journalists!

You know whether or not the dragons have invested so if you think the coverage would benefit your business I'd have a press release prepared to be sent to your local press after the show airs. Local newspaper websites are listed at http://www.newspapersoc.org.uk/Default.aspx?page=1228 and radio stations are at http://www.radio-now.co.uk/main.htm. There are tips on writing a press release at http://www.businesszone.co.uk/item/169237

Many previous contestants put 'as seen on Dragons' Den' buttons on their company website and the BBC archives many clips from the show at www.bbc.co.uk/dragonsden

As Rob Law from Trunki has been mentioned, here's an interview I did with him last year: http://www.businesszone.co.uk/item/179347

Hello

I love the look of the product -

'Looks too good to throw away'

The questions I'd be asking as a buyer are thus:

As a disposable item, how does the cost of this compare to the disposable equivalent ie paper plates (also recylable)?

As a food storage facility, can it only be used to store food once?
(note a plastic container can be reused timelessly)

Do you have a complete disposable picnic basket

Ie

Picnic basket made from this product
All tableware made from it
Containers made form it

ie. I envisage a slogan.........

'No need to lug your empty picnic basket with you on a full belly, you can pop the whole thing in the bin after use'.

That might appeal

Do you have such a product? If not it might be one to add to your list.

Good luck

Leah

Really good site and video about what your doing out in India, True Call from last weeks show had a photo of him with Peter Jones on there website before the pitch was finished.

Could you point them to this site or get a chat thing set up so you can talk to prospective cutomers as no doubt when it airs tomorrow alot of people will go to your site.

Imagine I'm some yob in a lovely picnic area and I just sling one of your eco-friendly plates into a bush and say to myself: "it's completely biodegradable".

How long would it take to break down into something that looked like it belonged in a lovely woodland spot and not some picnic plate that mrs yob has left there?

A lot longer than a paper plate.

Nice looking product ,but I would not invest.

The competition is to fierce.

Good luck though. And remember its not real life just grab the free advertising and run.:)

If the public like it you will get better offers of investment outside the DEN.

Actually a paper plate takes quite a long time to break down and also releases a lot chemicals into the environment when it does. Our plates are literally heat pressed out of a single leaf; its not made from reformed pulp or held together with binding agents and its not even coated. Unlike other biodegradable plates out there it doesnt need to be broken up and sent to a composter or recycling centre, it will break down like any leaf that falls off a tree.

Thought Dej pitched it beautifully. Didn't agree with the dragons on the cost objections (obviously I could see what they were getting at) but I thought you had it pretty much figured out. I believe there will be people/businesses willing to pay a bit of a premium for them.

No doubt in my mind it will be a fantastic success. Well done.

Only good shot I saw was the oneleaf company but the dumbos did not listen to the figures. If a professional caterer places an order for 50,000 units most might suspect they know more than the famous five.

Great product made from great material and in quantity a great price, let alone the aesthetic edge.

Only problem I see is would you want to throw them away.?:)

May be an idea to explore making permanent crockery.?

The issue they were getting at was that while they could see the cost to sale profit good down the line, they couldn't see the pathway to get there. they could see that selling at cost on a trial was fine, because if they sell then that proves there is a market, and if there is a market, then it is just cost that dictates the viability.

I don't think you will have an issue, and to be honest if I were you i would sell directly to people from the web. The picnic pack sold at £5, cost £2, and is light on postage. So you can retail it yourself and make a decent profit. WOm will help, and you can then also go down the wholesale route with the retail subsidising that while trade sales build.

very professional presentation though i have to say. Then again, as an Ex (is there such a thing)? barrister, i guess 'presenting a case' is bread and butter. After which you wipe the plate clean and start again :D

Ooops time for me Horlicks.;)

P.S did you need the money or were you after publicity or the drag queens connections.?
