Hi all,

I am not sure here is the right place to start this discussion, but I feel it is.

Basically, we sent some items from the UK to Bulgaria via DPD. These were all packed in a 52'' box together with a TV, printer, xbox and some clothes and personal belongings.

It arrived in Bulgaria today and i was SHOCKED to see it was repackaged into a much smaller plain carton box, all the TV, printer and the xbox were missing. From the ~30kg box we sent I got about 10kg box with some clothes and other belongings inside...

I do not know what to do, we did not have inventory list or something. Do you have any idea how to proceed?

Thanks, but I doubt it. The tracking number shows it is delivered, so I do not believe there will be something more. I will contact them on Monday and update you here, I will file a claim but the fact is very unpleasant.

If you read the small print, all the companies say basically the same thing. We will do our best to get the shipment to the destination in perfect condition and complete. If you are worried it may not, we will sell you insurance to prevent you losing out. Too many hands to go through in too many countries and too many legal opportunities to open the packaging. What level of insurance did you take? None would be a bad answer?

We sent 6-7 parcels actually, all of them except the last one arrived just fine. Nothing missing, broken, etc. We took the default liability insurance offered by DPD, which will be just enough, I suppose. Or at least will offset a big chunk of the losses.

We did not take higher levels of insurance, as the collection request had to be placed through the Bulgarian counterpart, who needed to arrange the things with DPD. As we are not sure what is their partnership and what insurance they offered, and as we were in rush, we just took the default insurance.

In future use a more secure courier like UPS or Fed ex, I would never consider using DPD in the UK let alone to send to Bulgaria. Get what you pay for I guess.

Even TNT I would also recommend for a cheaper but professional service, it would literally go on a cage to the country and not be touched until it arrives there.

ups Fedex and TNT are no different from DPD they all say the same do the same throw it across the warehouse the same and everyone of them use subcontractors that they dont even know .

There are very little other alternatives .These services exist for a reason and thats to keep the price down. They do a good job getting all this stuff around the world but the service is reflected in the price you pay and thats the risk .

Hi all, thanks for your replies. We sent a claim to DPD and to the Bulgarian counterpart. Also supplied the documents required, invoices for the items, etc. It may take quite some time, but will keep this topic updated to keep it a good reference for others who have the same issue in the future.

If these are personal possessions rather than sent in the course of a business, they won't give you any compensation.

I have only ever had one missing parcel with DPD and it contained Christmas presents for a child in Germany. It was never scanned beyond the Birmingham depot so looks as though it disappeared there. If it had contained goods that I was selling in the course of my business they would have paid compensation but because they were gifts, they wouldn't. I never got an apology or any indication as to where the parcel might have gone.

I now don't write the contents or value of any parcel going to Europe on the label as prompted but leave both fields blank as I am sure my description of the contents were what attracted the thief.

Pretty old threat, but as promised, I will update it to keep it a good reference point for the future. DPD and the local counterpart concluded their investigations. The parcel was 'repacked to keep the content safe, but during this process some contents went missing'.The items are declared lost. They asked for a list of the missing items with their value and what amount we claim for. Afterwards, they compensated in whole, so - happy end. Good luck is that we kept all the invoices and receipts for the content missing.

DPD are part of Geopost along with Interlink. For the record I use interlink, and i've been very happy with them. Each depot is a franchise so they are managed with a degree of care, i am friendly with my driver and he has told me in no uncertain terms that if someone was throwing parcels across the depot they'd be out on their ear! i've never had many problems with interlink, the odd parcel going missing but they were always small lacrosse balls, i've since packed them in larger bags and touch wood not had a problem. I've always been compensated for any losses on the next invoice. they're not perfect but they're the best i've used.
