Hi all,

I have found a very useful item that would solve a problem in high street shops. (I don't want to mention it for obvious reason).

I think the product would sell itself, so I wouldn't really need to convince the store owners to buy them.

My idea is to pop in the shop, quickly introduce myself and just hand them a free sample.
If they like it they buy more if they don't, they just get to keep the sample.

What do you think... should I just pop in without notice or give them a call beforehand and ask is it ok to pop in?

Thanks for your answers.
Have a great day!!! :)

Make the effort, sell the item. Don't expect business owners with a problem to recognise the solution when they see it - your sales will suffer if you do.

Minor issues - the owner may not be in the shop. The shop worker may not be aware of the problem. Rejection of the sample.
The shop being busy and you taking time away better used to sell something to a customer.

May do better presenting your item to business owners when they are looking for solutions. Trade fairs.

Great points, thanks very much for taking the time to write it.

Door to door selling is a great education in itself - though as Mr D has pointed out, there is no guarantee that an owner or decision-maker will be on site.

Also, depending on the nature of the product they might not get to see it (if you get my drift).

Most of all though, no matter how good the product is, it won't sell itself - you need to evolve a process and 'sales patter'.
