Hi all, anyone know the best deals on broadband dongles I am looking to get one to use for 3/4 hours a day...
Preferably a pay as you go one would be best or a rolling monthly contract.

Any Advise would be great,

Cheers:)

Whichever network you go with make sure they have a 14 day return policy so that when you get home and find you have no signal or it would be quicker to put on a pair of nike trainers and run to the server and download direct you can take it back to the store and get your money back.

Mobile broadband on the whole sucks.

Amen. I canceled 3 rolling contract because it was nothing but piece of crap. If you have a phone you can use as a modem - that's what I did. I went for monthly sim card with unlimited* internet, I plug it in, and works 10 times better than a bloody dongle. Obviously, "fair use policy" applies.

Actual time is irrelevant, it's the upload/downloads that count. Ie stay online for 24 hours and do nothing will cost nothing, stay online for 30 mins and download 5 gb - bingo you use your allowance.

Personally I also have a dongle from 3 I got it free on a promo a while ago, I top up with £10 when I need to use it, I get 1 gb valid for 30 days

Here is a tip to getting a better indoor dongle connection:

When I first moved into my work unit I needed to use my Vodafone dongle until my landline was set up.

It sometimes took 1 minute to get a web page loaded. I figured out that it was the building that caused me to have a bad connection so what I did was buy a 2 metre USB extension cable off eBay for a couple of squid and stuck it out the window and voila! Excellent connection!

Be careful about using smartphones/blackberries as dongles. We were told that even though we have unlimited data on our tariff if we used our blackberries as dongles that wouldnt be counted as part of the normal data, but would be charged, at some extortinate rate.

yes some phones like Blackberry are different. Some providers block you from using them as modems.

It would be good if all the mobile networks made an agreement to handle the other networks trafic in areas where the signal is low, for example if there;s an area where orange singal is rubbish but o2 is great then o2 handle the orange trafic and visa versa, it would benefit them all and wouldn't be an hard thing for them to do from a technical point of view, would just be like roaming. i can't see them ever doing this but it would be good for the consumer if they did.

I`m using Three network dongle myself. 30 day rolling contract, 5GB for 15£ per month. I use it 8 hrs a day for sending emails and documents and usually spend no more than 2.5gb per month. After two month I phoned them to cancel my contract saying speed was rubbish(but it wasnt) and got 50% discount from now on  Dongle itself was 4.99£.
