I have been doing some tidying up of my web and decided to move all my websites to one host for ease

Now I have a massive problem my main site was bought with Crazydomains and i started the transfer process to Names uk

Crazy Domins deleted the DNS settings at the start of the process and now i have no web and no emails, after speaking with Names they say there is nothing they can do as the site is in the transfer process, and talking to crazydomains is like pulling teeth

is there anything that i can do, as they say the process is around 5 days and i cannot be offline that long

Any help would be appreciated

I already have a dns set up on the new host but until they control the site the dns wont work

That's just stupid by Crazydomains, they shouldn't delete the dns settings until the domain is transferred, I would ask them to either put them back up (if they can) or I would ask for compensation for loss of sales (a lawyer would need to help here. e.g. legality etc)

I transfer a few domains a month from one registrar to another and this has never happened with any so far, seems like CD either did it by accident or were just maliciious.

I am afraid you are at the mercy of crazy domains. If it is a .co.uk domain name then it should be fairly instant. .com domain names etc do take a while longer but 5 days is not great at all. It is unusual behaviour to remove the DNS, especially if you are paid up and within the current registration period. I would go back to them and asked them to change the name servers to the new provider or do it via their control panel.

Update

Totally Useless the tech people told me the transfer is imminent so there is nothing they can do, so my reply was if its imminent and not done yet why did you delete the DNS zones, to which i got told its because i am moving it and i said yes but it wasn't moved so you should not have done it..... no reply

I asked she could manually add the namseco nameserver settings and she said i had call back during office hours www.crazydomains.co.uk support based in Australia

I am livid words cannot explain how peed off i am and to cap it all its not due until 14th February so i doubt anything will be done

I even offered to cancel the transfer but from experience Crazy Domains will take at least 48 hours to set it up again so looks like i am stuck

To cap it the people i have my exchange email account with phones are dead so i cannot get any redirect added there

not a good day today i must say

Nearly always, cheap means you end up dealing with some idiot that can't tell his arse from his elbow. And then you get problems.

I still struggle to understand why most businesses still don't seem to get this.

And domains and hosting is dangerous territory for people to be messing about in when they don't know what they're doing. And if their DNS takes 5 days to propagate, then they're pretty useless anyway.

I'd use new providers at your earliest opportunity. They do seem useless.

What's not due until 14th Feb?

Absolutely correct

sometimes cheap works but as you point out on this occasion its not worth it

I have instigated a domain transfer from crazydomains to namesco and as its a .com its 5 days to complete and crazy domains wont even look at it until Thrsday 14th

Sorry to hear that, not sure why they would have done that. They shouldn't have touched anything until it was transferred successfully. Are you unable to contact a management or feedback line to try get this resolved?

Also, keep an eye out on your emails, once the validation email comes through verify the transfer. Assuming everything else goes through smoothly the transfer can be completed in much less than 5 days.

Good luck.

Tried to speak to a manager but its Australia where their support is, so no one can help until at least this evening, I have sent urgent note asking why but do not hold out much hope, I have authorised the first mail from Namesco but the tech person from crazy domains said that she can see the request but i wont get any authorization request from crazydomains until at least Thursday

Its not looking good.. its not i can even redirect anything in this state

Its horrible when this happens, Unfortunately there's nothing you can do until the transfer has completed. Make sure the nameservers are set to the ones at names or again you will have a further wait. I approach all my domain transfers to absolute care to avoid this.

I always setup the new hosting first on my platform and then change the name servers. Once that's complete request the name transfer doing it this way will make the transition seamless.

Good luck, Adam

What confuses me is why you touched the domains at all.

Domain need not move with hosting. Hosting can be totally separate from domain names.

A domain name is just a pointer to the location of a site.

For the benefit of people wishing to do that same thing ie move hosting company. It would be better to copy the website files to the new hosting facility. Verify that the site works in its new home by setting a subdomain
to testing.

At this point your site should be up on both domain names. Once happy all is well makeing the DNS changes to the new hosting IP addresss or CNAME

Once propagated reconcile any ecommerce transactions missed during the transition window & cancel the old hosting.

.co.uk's will take between 1-16 hours, .com's longer.

.co.uk's are instant if you have direct access to change the IPS tag otherwise it will be as slow as the current registrar can update the IPS tag.

Sounds like he wants to keep everything in one place, while it is an option to have your domains in x whilst hosting at y some people do prefer to keep everything in the same place, understandably.

Anyway, was this resolved for you? Hopefully all is good by now :).

As it is a .com domain then nothing should have been cut off until you had authorised the transfer. The authorisation transfer email goes to the Admin Contact for the domain, which would normally be yourself or it may be a Crazy Domain's address. That email does tend to take 5 days to come through.

However, if you didn't have backup copies of the web site or emails then they would have disappeared anyway at the point of actual transfer. Once the transfer has gone through you would have needed to upload the backup copy of the website to the new domain hosts and to set up the mailboxes all over again.

This isn't difficult, but is something that we guide our domain hosting customers through as it isn't obvious.

Crazy Domains sound as if they have maliciously cut you off as they were losing you as a client. This isn't good business practice on their part, but that doesn't help you, I'm afraid. I guess they seemed cheap at the time....
