Hello all,

I was just wondering if someone can help.

I have a few domain names that are not in use at the moment, but I'm looking to start using them (I'll be selling products on them except for one website that I'll be trying to sell other people's products after trying to rank the website on Google).

Is there any books, courses, tips that anyone can help with? I've previously done things more or less blindfolded and want to try and get a good grasp on it before moving forward.

I've got some experience with WordPress. Any help would be really appreciated.

Well, it is just a question of getting some hosting. If you get the right hosting package you can host all the websites from the same account. Then really it is a question of installing wordpress and developing/get a theme template and populating it with data/content.
As to books & courses, I suggest the internet :)

Ideally you would build all this on a development server and then upload it to your live site. But if you set the site to no-index, and as it is a new domain, nobody will find it except some bots.

Really the question is a bit non-specific so it is quite difficult to answer.

It's worth noting that most web hosting plans advertising support for multiple websites should not be used for multiple websites (unless perhaps they're all static sites).

If you want to host different websites, each website should be isolated to its own system user. For shared hosting this is most commonly available under the name reseller hosting but other names are used too. There are also some providers with custom control panels supporting this set up under their normal web hosting plans, although it's quite rare.

Reason being (for the OP's info) is that hosting different websites within a single account generally means if one is compromised, they're all compromised, amongst other issues.

If you've experience with WordPress then WooCommerce should be a consideration for the ecommerce platform as it gives you an abundance of themes and plugins. Hosting, look at a VPS so you can host separate websites, get free/paid for SSL for each. What product lines are you considering? Ensure whichever platform/payment provider you choose supports them.

I agree with @iDigLocal : you will get more useful information if you are more specific.

Your questions is really "I want to set up some websites from which I will sell something". Its incidental that you already own the domain names.

Do you want to take payments on the websites? What sort of products? How competitive is the market you are in terms of ranking on Google?

Yes, you are correct, shared hosting may not be the best choice for multiple websites with a lot of traffic.

The amount of traffic is irrelevant, more than one website in the same account is a security risk for any amount of traffic.
having one website is a security risk, but the benefits generally out way the costs. But yes you are right there are cons to using shared hosting for multiple websites.

But before they invest in their own data centre and their own in-house cyber security team they may want to look at different options, and some of these maybe a little more accessible both from a cost and a technical point of view. ;):)
