To be pedantic, a dot-com or similar is a suffix, as it comes after and not before the name.

But to your question - the generic domain type is irrelevant to where you do business or which jurisdiction is relevant. Your website has to make it clear where you are and therefore, which jurisdiction applies.

Country specific TLD's are simply for identification purposes and convenience to help people find websites and to show your customers in what country you are based. You can use any TLD you like, there is law regarding which you can use.
