Hi all i have a question and hope you can help as i am new to seo and still trying to find my feet, right i have a classified ads site cheapclassifieds.co.uk this is the primary domain name and has been for about a year,I have in the last couple of weeks bought freeonlineads.co.uk which i think will be a better domain for the search engine in my research people search for FREE ADS,FREE ONLINE ADS ETC very few search for cheap classifieds cheap ads etc
question is am i right right in thinking the new domain will do better on the search engines ?
by the way both domains all point to the same site.
hope this all makes sense and any help would be good. Thanks

First point of order, a keyword rich domain name will not automatically do well in the SE. They do not carry as much weight as some people think IMHO. Many more factors to ranking well and these come above the DN in terms of ranking weight.

It all depends on YOUR wishes and how well your current domain is indexed, its age and the current infrastructure. The switch will put you back to DAY ONE in Googles eyes I believe.

Consider these factors before you decide to change things...

Another option is to build a quality landing page on the new domain that can be used in PPC etc and have the call to action leading to your reg pages? Just a thought.

First make sure your site is in alternativestoebay.com

Second, I would build another site for the new domain, be that a directory or as suggested a sort of feeder site and market them together. For indexing the domain name will make no difference between the to because search engine use blocks of similar terms "free is maybe classed as cheap" under a block "value".

I think the new domain "free" is a great domain so yes I would use it. But I don't know if I would change an existing site for it. I tend to look at the positives v negatives but only can say if refreshing is worth it.

Thanks very much for the advise im using adwords at the moment so am getting some visitors I think really I don't have nothing to lose as without the adwords campaign I get very little traffic ive done what i think is quite a lot of posting on forums directories ETC to boast my rankings so i guess it's just a matter of waiting and hope for the best.would you agree ?

The best way to use your domains is to make some mini sites. This will give you more exposure in the search results and build up some site authority on them. Then if done correctly you could then forward them to your main site and benefit from them much more.

Hi "cheap"

I notice you say you are pointing both the cheap classifieds and the free online ads domain at the same website. If this is right then you need to be sure that Google does not think there is duplicate content occurring. I'm not at expert at this so I am not sure how you would prevent the two domains appearing separately in Google and thus possibly being flagged as duplicate. The suggestion by ITSoldUK to create a landing page and then direct your customers to whichever site you decide is the main one looks like a good idea.

I have 6 domains pointing to the same site the reason for this is on my main business which is not the classifieds site i have 2 websites and 7 domains pointing to one site and am no1 on google for the keywords i want so i was thinking it would work for the classifieds site although there is more competition in the classifieds market then my other business sites.
So you think that pointing to many domains to 1 site is bad ?

Are you redirecting with a 301?
