Domain Hierarchy?

HI All

I have a collection of domains of various types such as .com/.co.uk and .biz etc... I was wondering if there is a domain hierarchy? i.e. which is the most popular downwards.

.com - The daddy of the Internet, a premium extension

.co.uk - This is actually my second fave to .com, similar level of saturation in the commercial sector as the global .com.

.net -Nowhere near as familiar as the .com, I don't usually waste my time with them but that's not to say it's not marketable because they are. (some would argue that .net and .org would go before .co.uk)

.org - Same as above.

.org.uk - Not has good as a co.uk, or even a .org but still has potential. Both .org and .org.uk's are only really suitable for non-profit organisations.

.biz/.info - A lot of spam comes from these and in my opinion aren't worth the reg fee unless you know who you are targeting, a lot of your average web surfers don't even know they exist.

There are loads more extensions but the above are the main ones, even if one or two aren't as popular as some wish. I've listed the domains in that order because that's what I feel is right, although there isn't any real set hierarchy and will vary from person to person.

It depends where you are.

.co.uk would be probably second in the list if you were in the UK behind .com. If you were in El Salvador it probably wouldn't be too high much like .sv isn't popular here.

As el dude says though I think it goes without saying that .com is "the daddy" of TLD's.

Nope. The fact that it's a .biz regardless of the SLD does nothing for it...

it could be two characters, in my mind it's not a gTLD and is pretty worthless...

This is just my opinion of course, there is no set rule...

A lot of 3 letter .com and .co.uk domains can be valuable, but not all.

.biz is a bit like the last bit of gravy on the plate unless you are pretty lucky.
