Hello, I am looking to start a dog great business from home. I would be buying natural treats at whole sale and then repackaging into treat boxes. I already have permission from the wholesaler to do this. My questions are-
1) do I need some kind of licence or registration to do this?
2) do I need insurance?
3) where can I find advice on the regulations I would need to follow?

I have seen a few people have asked this before but it doesn’t look like they have received a definitive answer

thanks so much in advance!

1. If your sales in a year exceed £1,000 you need to register with HMRC as self employed
2. Not essential but you would be a fool if you didn't have any. Product liability insurance would be the place to start.
3. The Food Standards agency are responsible for animal feed legislation which covers the manufacture of feed for non-food producing animals including pet food and pet treats.

Yes you would need to be registered as a food business with your local council, who will also expect you to have a food safety cert min level 2.

Expect to have your premises inspected at some stage too.

You would need public liability insurance

The FSA deal with all food regs inc pet food
