Does PPC effect Organic ranking?

There is no connection - at least that's what Google say, but who really knows?

They also say that links with the nofollow attribute attached don't transfer weight or anchor text although there have been many studies and tests done that prove otherwise. So, they may, they may not, you should always use PPC regardless if you can achieve a healthy ROI with it.

Statistically, sites with both PPC and Organic listings get higher click through rates on both. CTR is a part of the algorithm so actually yes, but indirectly. Plus the UX bit mentioned above. That said, call me cynical, but I seem to have noticed remarkably quicker replies to issues such reinclusion requests when you have a BIG (talking millions) PPC budget..... maybe just a coincidence, but......

There was a time when we were not on page one for our key words, so we bought a shed-load of ads in the hope that it would have an effect.

Nothing. We still were not on page one!

Then we changed our website on gave it much, much more content.

Then we were on page one!

How can you be sure? Google doesn't reveal its search algorithm, so nobody except them knows for sure.

Probably because there'd be a poop-storm if the could be proven that there was a link. It would mean that the entire SERPs, for money keywords, were, effectively, paid, not just the ads. Google would lose its halo overnight.

Adwords is Google golden goose. It's possible a big, lazy company might do something that stupid, if it got a pseudo-clever CEO in, but I doubt it.

I agree that there is PROBABLY no direct connection (however, you can never be sure). Of course, it is important to remember that actions carried out by visitors brought to your site by PPC could affect your pages ranking. If visitors via PPC share your content, interact on page, dwell on your site or page for a long time and more these signals can improve your pages organic ranking.

I had a client who was convinced there was a direct link despite me telling them that there wasn't.

The problem is that it's impossible to prove either way, and these days search results are so skewed based on whether you're signed into Google and your previous search history that nobody can figure it out.

My advice is 'stick to PPC', but I would say that...

When I started my first online business 2 years ago, I started using Adwords. Based on my own experience, there is no direct link between SEO and PPC.

However, after I started using PPC more pages on my website started to get indexed. This was very clear to me that it's because I started the PPC campaign. More indexed pages means more organic traffic, so indirectly there is a relation. Anyone who also experienced this?

PPC can save you months of investment in time, effort and marketing service provider fees, by allowing you to test your theories about which keywords are worth pursuing. You can pay Google, run some ads targeting your theory keywords, test your landing pages, refine your adverts (title and meta description in the organic world), establish what offers pull the hardest....

So, in that respect, PPC speeds up gains for organic seo rankings, giving you a flying start on the meta optimisation and page content for conversion rate optimisation as well.

------------------

Unless they've hidden it really well, Google doesn't give you an organic SEO quality score so you know how well you're hitting the mark, but if you cough up a few quid, they will do just that under the label of Adwords.

PPC drives organic on-page optimisation which influences rankings.

Sure, I can't say definitely that if you spend X per month on Adwords, you'll rank Y positions higher organically. But I can say that if you use the tools they give you, you have the opportunity to quickly rank higher organically, convert at a better rate and profit as a result.
