Does leafleting work?

Hi guys,

I am currently marketing my events and am considering using a company that distributes leaflets. The company has leaflet stands all over Sussex (my events are starting at Uckfield in East Sussex) apparently in places ranging from bars to civic offices.

Have any of you tried this marketing model and if so, did it work?

I am very grateful for any advice that you may have on this subject before I part with my hard earned cash!

Hi Leanne,

It depends on what exactly you are trying to do with the leaflets and what industry you are in. For example, would your campaign be targeted to your likely prospects? What is your call to action? How do you get people to respond now?

From my experience of leaflets dropped through the door (targeted only by area), these yield pretty poor results, usually between 0.1-0.2%, going up to 0.5% response rate; though that can work as ok for some businesses.

I am not sure how this compares to leaflet stands, but I'd be surprised if their response rates are better; that is unless the stands are in places where people are looking for your kind of events.

You could have a look at what other companies are using the same stands and call them to ask how successful their campaigns are. I would do that before spending any money with the leaflet stand company!

The main thing with leaflets (as with other direct marketing) is - test, test and test again your leaflet/copy (and how you target it) before you commit to paying for a large volume. Ideally test several variations of your leaflet/copy/headline/price/call to action against each other to see which one yields better response.

Also you should consider how this fits in your overall marketing strategy as there might be other ways how you can acquire prospective customers at lower cost per lead (a different topic altogether)...

I think it entirely depends on the product u r trying to sell and your target market.
