Hi there. I was wondering if anyone uses LinkedIn in their SEO strategies and what they outcomes may have been. As I figure this is a tech-savvy group, I was also wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to restrict specific users from viewing your profile, instead of the widescale parameters the site currently uses.

Thanks for your help!

You can change what people see about your profile in the Privacy & Settings section of the site, which can be found when you put your mouse pointer over your image on the top right.

As for using LinkedIn for SEO - I don't really know.

I do use Linkedin for selling however, but it's engaging rather than hard-selling.

A great resource and trainer for Linkedin is a guy called James Potter (he calls himself 'The Linked In Man'). You can find his website here --> http://thelinkedinman.com/

We use LinkedIn as somewhere to upload links back to our articles that we publish in our blogs with SEO titles. It only takes a couple of minutes and also gives you a presence on LinkedIn which can't hurt. I'm not sure if it has any real effect on the passing back of link-juice though.

You can check out LinkedIn groups. Not really sure if they have a direct effect on SEO. But, you can participate in discussions for people with the same interests as your brand. It's a good way to get more visibility from your posts.

It's not so much for SEO. Businesses usually use it to increase brand awareness.

As of blocking people, it's a little hard on that one. Even LinkedIn says that they don't have this feature yet. But there're some privacy settings you can play around with. You can read about it below.

Hello,

I would say it depends,

depending on what the text surrounding the link is about, how many people view it and does it lead to useful information for a user on your site. If the information is just a repetition then no but if it is useful information then yes every little helps.

Example, you write a blog on linked in 1000 people opens it 1000 people reads it google will give it good rank, link inserted in that blog takes users back to your site and the content is connected and meaningful and 1000 users actually stay a while on the linked page and read the content of it, perhaps even return to it will have a positive impact on your page.

However if out of 1000 visitors majority of them leave shortly after arriving to you page Google will think that the users were unable to find what they were looking for and will disregard your page.

Hope this helps,

Since LinkedIn is a B2B network and has a stronger business focus than other social platforms, this is a perfect place to discuss and advertise professional solutions to relevant groups of people.

LinkedIn is especially good in terms of targeted traffic to your site. For instance, using LinkedIn groups can be an effective way to drive traffic and get noticed in industry circles. Just find groups related to your business and post up a few new articles on the group wall in 'Discussions' or 'Promotions' sections (remember that many group members will receive e-mail notifications when someone posts on the group wall).

As for SEO aspects of using LinkedIn, they are pretty much the same as for other social networks. Optimize your profile (place your keywords in titles and content), post links to your site and use appropriate anchor texts and make sure a profile URL is customized with your brand name/keyword. You may also interact on LinkedIn Answers and mention your services there.

@NicholasTylor, thanks for referring to James Potter's blog, checking it right now and see some great posts out there.

You can post updates from your profile so your connections can see your content. It goes without saying that you should think about the needs of your connections and the value you can provide.

You can use groups to post content but you need to be careful. Read the group rules and get to know the group first. Add your content where relevant and if starting a discussion with a blog post for example, try to start a conversation around it. I mentioned reading the group rules as all of them are run differently and a relatively new moderation tool that group owners have access to, means they can place you in moderation across the whole site where groups are concerned. Also, not all group owners fully understand this tool which is another issue altogether.

LinkedIn is a huge network and has many active members. This readily makes it a nice place to discuss services and solutions that are advantageous for a number of people. You can conveniently post things in various sections according to your requirements. It is also beneficial to put in links on LinkedIn that redirect members to your site.
