Does anyone know why Santander still don't do Faster Payments?

In 2008, the faster payments scheme was set up (through CHAPS Clearing Co, I believe). Back then, all the big banks were involved; RBS, HBOS, Santander, HSBC, etc. In fact, Santander were a "founding member"!

Santander are one of the only banks who don't offer Faster Payments through their Internet Banking. Many of my suppliers just can't believe Santander hold onto their money for three to five days when we send it out.

Anyone with any insider knowledge about when Santander are going to drag their ar5es into the 21st Century?

According to this page they do, but have a rubbish £300 limit on bill payments (anything over goes via BACS - 3 days)

I mean, £300?? they are by far the lowest of any bank in the uk:

That must be over phone only; it's definitely not via internet banking.

Although, customers of Alliance and Leicester who are now part of Santander can send Faster Payments.

Not sure - i'm with the Co-op personal and Barclays for business and both of them just automatically send it the fastest way if you do a transfer via online banking - there's no specific option for faster payments, but they normally always do go that way.

Santander definitely don't do faster payments via the internet banking but do via the phone system.
I am an a&l customer and can't send faster payments unless I login to the A&L website.

It's annoying for me when I send a payment to someone and tell them they will need to wait 3-5 days for it to clear.

I have the same problem Stu, been an A&L commercial customer for several years, always comes up as 'faster payments' but as soon as theres any amount even for a couple of hundred quid it reverts to BACS, rubbish!

Having a moan at them at the moment, ordered a replacement debit card on the 4th May, should have been with me by the 20th and still not here! Its just a monopoly where all the banks can offer customer service levels circa the 70s and get away with it, shocking!
