But don't stuff every image with the keyword you have in the title or headers. That looks too fake to Google.

I recommend using related keywords or natural alt descriptions.

The alt will certainly help Google figure out the image for Google images, as well as other things such as the surrouding text, captions, image file name..

Linking on an image with keywords in the alt text also helps ranking for that keyword.

The alt attribute is required, but alt text is not. Lots of images shouldn't have alt text.

Not chipping in with SEO, leave that to the others but as for accessibility and usability then yes, the alt att is a must in my book.

Build good clean and functional code for the user and the bots will come.

So if it's an image just to make your top navigation banner have rounded corners then leave the alt blank.

The relative value of alt text for ranking has always been very little, but the spammy use of this has also been discouraged.

I suggest you to try to fit in a 1-2-word alt text descriptor for real pictures but an empty value for spacer images.

Actually, if the image if there for descriptive purposes it should probably have alt text. I think you mean decorative, in which case yes all decorative images should have alt="".

It all comes down to context. Even if an image contains text, that doesn't automatically mean it should have alt text. If that text is conveyed in the surrounding content it is not necessary to have alt text on that image.

Images that perform a function (icons), images that are links (where the alt text becomes the anchor text) and images that convey context should all have alt text.

Hi guys it is right. No doubt about it at all. Alt tags help to search engine optimization. We use alt tags for image optimization. Search engine doesn't read image rather read only text. Therefor we create alt tags for image to tell search engine about the image.
