Does Alan Sugar Talk Rubbish

so I finally got round to watching the first 2 episodes of the Apprentice and I must say for the fruit and veg task £500 profit is useless.....Alan sugar was all impressed saying that it is still possible to make money from £250!

Yes Alan the team made a profit but what about the cost of a commercial kitchen, packaging and labeling, 6 wages for the day, the pitch to sell the items oh and a van to sell them from......

Think all that costs most than £250 to me?

Sorry rant over...back to work now....

I did wonder that too. Everything laid on - even the packaging it seemed.

He talks the talk for a TV show and "plays" within the rules for good TV.

Generally does he talk rubbish, no. Like him or not he's is a successful business man so obviously knows what he's on about - in his field. That can't be argued with.

Yep he's a hypocrite. More likely trying to play the big i am on telly.

You've got it, wouldn't it be boring if he just said "wonderful job chaps" all the time.

It's just a TV program, and he's the villain of the piece, think Ann Robinson and the Weakest Link or Simon Cowell, it a part they play to make "good" telly.

Either way, we are talking about it :p

I wonder how business savvy some of the people on this show actually are, its easy to say I've done this and done that but time after time they make themselves look like idiots. Personally I like Lord Sugar but agree the profit from the first task was shocking really for both teams.

    He talks absolute crap

A few years ago he was advising new start up transport companies how to gain new business .His advise was to try to gain business from the likes of DHL and Fedex Ect !!!!
As a transport company this is the last thing you want to be doing.!!!
You need to get business direct from the business sector where you can charge a higher price not be force into bankruptsy by a large national company that is just looking out for itself .
Good advise Alan keep it up !

It's certainly not cheap TV! Full of all the TV tricks - notice how when they're in the boardroom, how all the closeups have had their eye colours enhanced? It has nothing to do with business at all - it's television. It's managed, staged, carefully edited, prepared for the follow up programme - and considering how none of the participants sacked weeks before ever reveal things to the press, they're all looked after financially and packaged legally.

It's good TV - doesn't matter what anyone thinks because the viewing figures are great. The subject material is weak of course, but that's the fun. Few of the people on it are really as daft as they appear - they're budding media objects. They switch sides and opinions based on how they come across. The editing yesterday was actually very clever, everone saw exactly how it was going, then it swapped instantly.

None of the tasks are ever as clear cut as they appear to be. Very often the real costs are much higher. They always make TV and radio ads, pop into studios for voice overs and one team could spend twenty grand on their advertising/production, with the other maybe spending 10% of that. These costs are not included in the 'game'.

    It TV not reality.

I suspect Alan knows quite a bit about what computers not to make.

I believe his money is now mostly in property.

He may or may not be an expert in the business's he has been involved in but doubt he is on the same level as rocket scientists.

I am glad tho he has moved away from fax machines and into APPS but an app designed from scratch in 12 hours? What about testing? Im sure those apps worked great lol

Yeah, I noticed that. I don't think it's a coincidence that both apps did more-or-less the same thing.

I bet they already had a soundboard app made up and it was just a matter of plugging in the graphics and sound.

I don't watch it, its Tv not reality as many other have said - the point about the £500 however I think has been missed; it wasn't the figure, it was how they used what they had to maximise sales/profit - it could have been £5k, or £50k, then just the decimal point moves to see how well they utilise the 'resource' and turn it into £800/8000/80,000 etc?

Yeah, the app one made me cringe too. As if any of the 3 websites would recommend either of those lousy apps. Because they got lots of air time they probably said they would feature one of the 2 for sure.

Also girls only won due to description and wording, the quality of the app was terrible, and would have generated no advertising revenue. The girls app would have had 1-2 mins on a phone before uninstall, while the boys one is probably still on the odd phone now.

And yeah, £250 went a very very long way didn't it :) License for Canary Wharf stall + stall + 6 suited employees. lol cakes
