Do you block/unfollow/ignore on social media?

I must admit, my approach is now pretty uncompromising - if you spoil my enjoyment, or clutter up my timeline with self promotion, gibberish or negativity I will remove you by whatever means are available

Good outcome - I get to see the stuff I wAnt to see,the blocked person will probably never know and we avoid pointless, undignified online arguments.

Personally I only use Facebook to play with friends so don’t have many connections - though I will hide those who whitter on

I’m trying to raise my fame on LinkedIn and have worked out that it’s far more effective if you clear your timeline of stuff that isn’t either interesting or enjoyable. In particular that means getting rid of argumentative. Constant self promotional or just annoying contacts

I hardly ever bother with LinkedIn as it's almost all self promotion in the area that I'm interested in.

I don't really find "I've just signed another client aren't I a clever boy" interesting so I don't bother reading it.

My business model doesn't rely on networking at all so I only accept invitations from people I've met plus yourself and two others from UKBF and most of the self promoting crap seems to be from others but appears on my page as one of my group has been daft enough to either like it or comment

Sometimes the self promotion is quite funny, with heavy-handed attempts to make it news or praise.

Mostly it’s just dull.

I agree, there are people who talk loads of crap who seem to get lots of likes and comments, so cluttering my timeline

Still, it’s starting to generate leads and is not a bad place if managed closely.

You don't need to unfriend them. Just block them. That means you can still message them, and they'll see what you post.

True. I'm a fairly enthusiastic declutterer, so if I feel someone is having a negative impact on me I will unfriend )or whatever) - on the other hand, if they are just whittering I will just remove their content from my timeline.

I've only recently discovered 'ignore' on here - and have done so to great effect wit a handful of people. Usefully, if a thread makes no sense you can see their contribution - which so far has vindicated the ignore.

I'll resist the temptation to name and shame - except for one - The next Steve Jobs - what th f@"k is he on about??

Face book creates SHADOW ACCOUNTS of visitors!

That means anyone who has ever visit Facebook has a shadow account even if they have never signed up ... it's part of the data mining web

No surprise to find out that social networks keep track of likes, blocks and disconnects etc It's all part of data mining the psychology of individuals and thier network

Not a clue and don't usually see his stuff. Got so many odd messages from him I turned off messages.

The ignore button here and block button elsewhere makes things more pleasant. There are some people on facebook that I thought we were friends that turn out to be right idiots online.
Saying that people will often post stuff on social media that they won't say in person.
Can find out what they are really like not the mask they show you to get what they want from you.

I agree, I don’t do any social media so I wouldn’t know about that. Seems to me that some people here think they are superior by continually letting us all know they have people on ignore. Personally, and being a adult, I possess the ability to skip a post or two without the aid of a bit of nannying software doing it for me.

Now for children I can see the benefits of being able to block them from certain people.

I completely agree with the counter argument thing; indeed it is always those who embrace the counter argument are always the most interesting in debate.

Somewhat disagree on the broken clock, my maxim being that 'whilst a stopped clock is right twice a day, you never know when, so the information is useless'.

A good friend of mine is a raging socialist - unlike me. Face to face we can discuss it with good humour and tolerance. However I’ve unfollowed him on Facebook because all he does is rant.

It really isn't about agreeing or disagreeing with opinions - it's about how they are delivered. Selfish perhaps, but if someone consistently spoils my enjoyment of a platform and doesn't add personal value, why not just remove them.
