Do I remove this threat?

AVG found something, when I click remove all unhealed, it warns me about crashing or causing an unstable system, here's the path:

C:\Windows\Installer\2097d93c.msi

do I remove it?

Uninstall AVG and use a proper free Anti Virus programme such as Avast.

Safest way would be to boot into safe mode (press F8 when booting) then navigate to the location and delete the file. Make sure you also empty the recycle bin too then reboot into normal mode.

Bear in mind though - that msi looks like it may have been created on the fly by another malware/virus (they tend to create them on on boot with random names to make them harder to detect) so I'd also do a full sweep of the PC using Malwarebytes whilst in Safe Mode.

What's wrong with AVG? At least it found the virus - all AV programs have problems cleaning files from time to time...

Thanks for that, am in safe mode. Okay, so I followed the path, clicked uninstall but it won't let me access it saying it was probably not installed correctly! So not only is it causing problems, I can't delete or repair the damn thing, pah!

Do you have any ideas on access at all?

No, don't uninstall, just browse to the directory and delete the file.

I would also download a copy of malwarebytes or superantispyware, either would compliment AVG as an extra layer of defence against spyware and malware.

Edit: oops Posilan already mentioned malwarebytes!

You have two options available to you if you uninstall AVG:

1) Install Norton
2) Don't use anti-virus

Either way, you're screwed.

I've used AVG and it's by far the best anti-virus software I've used. I've used them all, except for Norton. I'm not silly.
