Hi all,

I am importing a container load from outside the EU consisting of decorative items made from stone that have a wooden base. The wooden bases are about 4x4 inches in size and about 1 inch high. Do I need a fumigation certificate for these products?

Thanks,
Mark

I would say not - refer the linked document from the Forestry Commission that lays down the relevant rules and regs. Looks like the items you mention are exempted - page 4 of document FCPH001 from Forestry Commission website ( being a newbie I am not allowed to post links - easy enough to find though!)

Perversely any wood packaging used will probably need to be ISPM15 compliant heat treated or fumigated in the main and your exporter / forwarder should have ensured that this was done and VERY importantly that the packaging is marked accordingly ( note that plywood / MDF / 'manufactured wood' is exempted from this too). We'd be happy to help with Customs clearance / delivery and any future imports ( or exports) you may have. Ping me a mail.
Good luck
Dave

If the wooden base is processed and painted (that what I guess), you do not need to do fumigation, as it's impossible for worms survive in processed and painted wood.

Only raw wood will need fumigations, such as wood crates which are popularly used to protect glass and other fragile products.

So, if you have to use wood crates for protection, try to use plywood (not solid wood).
