dmoz submission

It probably doesn't carry much weight in seo anymore right? But all my competitors seem to have a link in there, whenever i go on to dmoz internal pages seem to come back with an error so I don't how i can submit to it anyway..

any help on how to get listed would be great. Also your thoughts on whether it makes any difference as part of a wider seo strategy.

Personally I haven't bothered for a long time. I do think that it has some value, but not a huge amount.

Usually I simply find there are higher priority things to do.

Whenever I work on an SEO project I tend to create a list of "what needs doing", which I re-evaluate on a monthly basis, adding new ideas whenever I can.

I always sort the list by priority and work on the most important bits first.

Quite simply, it's been a long time since DMOZ has been worthwhile enough to be "high priority".

So if you want to submit, sure, go ahead, but there are almost certainly other, more important and more effective things that you could be doing. So certainly don't spend too much time on it!

That's my take anyway.

Afraid I can't help on the "how to get listed" bit... Beyond the generic advice you will find by just Googling it of course.

Hope that helps though.

If it takes you less than a minute then we would say that it's worthwhile however SEO isn't that easy and if it were then all of your competitors would also be listed on DMOZ which means that it's not an advantage in any case. If you do submit then try looking for a different category with a high Page Authority and few listings that relates to your website.

I got a submission approved 2 weeks ago for a project of mind - purely out of intrigue. Contacted a dmoz editor for the website's category to try and move it along quicker. Still took 8 or 10 weeks to get through.

It's just a bit of an archaic web directory really. It's time has passed.
