DJ Hire Costs...

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could give us an idea of how much it would cost approximately to hire a reasonably good DJ (not someone who is likely to pull in crowds but someone who knows how to mix etc.)for a university student event at a club with around 300 capacity and on a weekday. We're looking to start approaching people but want to be clued up before we start trying to negotiate a rate

How long's a piece of string mate.... You're going to get capable DJ's from all walks of life, looking for all different types of payment.

Why don't you start by asking the club what they pay their resident DJ and go from there?

One of my DJ pals gets between £15 and £300, the other said at least £100.

Depends on type of club, area, number of hours etc etc etc

P.S. where are you doing it? What's the student theme? Send me a PM, happy to give you some advice as have done this kind of thing in the past, and depending on location, can recommend some good DJs

Just FYI, seriously consider getting someone in that's famous. It might cost you £2500, plus expenses. But it's worth it if you do it properly

Can't you ask other Uni's who they've used?

I had a littel giggle, I was once a Dj and a decent one won't negotiate a rate with you, he'll just tell you the price, even in midweek!

Matt what type of music are you looking for?

I have friends that DJ and one of them also works at an agency, although from the sounds of it the agency DJs arent what you are looking for.

as said depends on the music you want and the quality of the DJ. you would probably find a reasonable DJ on campus who would do a night for £50.
A friend of mine who mixes house music won't do a local night for less than £100 and for £1000 + expenses you could have DJ Jaguar Skills of radio1 fame - But that was a friday night a couple of year back when he was first hitting radio1
