Diversify...New Markets?

I

Ivor Mills

I have a modern ground floor 1200sq ft unit in Bristol and I am looking for new opportunities to diversify. Because of changes in clients I no longer need the space or facilities that the unit offers, however I would like to find new sources of work that could take advantage of this space. I already provide services in the graphics area including design, artwork, large format print, digital photgraphy etc. but because I am quite 'hands on', having completed various non graphic related projects for clients, I am willing to look at out sourcing requirements and would install new equipment if necessary to cater for this. I would like to fully investigate other markets before deciding to move to smaller premises. Your input would be much appreciated.

What about renting out desk space / meeting rooms to local freelance designers? All they'd need is connectivity, a nice desk and print facilities. A studio I used to use in London did this really well - it was an open plan office, got people together, helped them share skills, good social side too.

You might generate extra print customers at the same time.

Unless of course there's some legal hurdle around renting shared office space? Just a thought!

You could have something fun for employees and clients.

We've just got a ping-pong table (or should that be wiff-waff?) and are getting, what's terribly been dubbed, a 'break-out' room.

We've also got a glass room for meetings which we also use as an 'angry bubble'. As it is soundproof we can go in there and shout and scream about annoying clients if so required (of course we love all our clients really ;) ).

It's all getting very new media here!
