Hi, this is my first post to this forum, for a long while. I was a member way back when it was relatively new before moving overseas for a while. I've just signed up again.

Wondered if I could get some advice on appointing a distributor? The product is sports and camping related.

I manufacture my product in China. I pay my supplier a percentage on ordering the the remainder before it's shipped - shipping and clearance then takes 4-6 weeks.

There's a couple of companies have expressed interest in distributing the product and I'm yet to meet with them. One reason I like to go with a distributor because they have established relationships with large retailers. The other is that for a very large order i wouldn't be able to wait months for payment or afford to bank-roll the order... if they cancelled half we though, for example, it would be too much of a hit.

So, question is; can I reasonably expect a distributor to pay upfront when they order from me - say 50% to me on ordering and the the remaining 50% six weeks before they will receive the goods?

Any other general advice would be great. I've had products before but never dealt with a distributor, only smaller stored directly.

thanks in advance.

Yes you can - our disstributors pay for their order when they order - if they are inport orders, they pay 70% with order and the balance on delivery.

If you were a distributor for a large, well know sports brand, german in original, then you would pay 100% up front, then wait 6 -9 months for them to send you the wrong things....!!!:)
