Hi,
I am 5 months into a 12 month contract for a small office. The business has not done too well, with office rent outweighing business earnings I asked the landlady if we could come to a compromise. Be this way of a penalty to get out or a 'rent holiday', days later I received an abrupt reply and a reminder the rent was 2 weeks late.
I was offered a job from a friend to pay the arrears, so went to the office to collect some equipment. I came to find the corridor door before my office door locked, and I couldnt gain entry. There was no notice and no indication that this was going to happen. The landlady ignored my text and calls, but now claims I owe 2 months rent!! My rent is paid in advance, so I was late for junes pay date, but it was covering julys rent. Julys rent date isnt due so with her locking the entry to the office how can I be expected to pay.
Today I got a letter saying that if I dont pay 2 months rent in 10 days she will follow the accelerations procedure with the court. Shouldnt this have been served before she siezed my equipment?
Please help, She has my deposit to cover the outstanding months rent but wont take it, and I cant earn as she has all my equipment inc my flatmates possessions.
