Distance required behind a deli counter?

Hi All,

I am attempting to design layout of my delicatteseen - budget does not allow professional help!
First fix wiring is starting next week and so I need to be specific about where each socket and light will go. I can measure out the rear worktop area, and know the width of my serve overs etc but:

can anyone in the delicattesen/ coffee shop business tell me how much space they need behind the counter? Is a metre enough?

Well, I don't think so that meter will be enough you have to increase it lit a bit

It probably depends on the space you have available? Is one metre enough for a person to serve at the counter and room for a person to walk behind them? Are you planning to have shelves behind the counter or a blank wall?
Go and look at other shops and see what they do?

one metre is a little tight, 1.5 would be adequate and 2 metres much better.

I think 2 metres is realistic from the Health & Safety point of view.

If you have knives and slicing machines planned to be used on your work surfaces, the LAST thing you want is someone trying to get past jostling that could push a hand into a slicing machine or under the blade of a knife while cutting.

Health and safety is all about planning ahead for the possibilities and doing that is a cheaper option than an injured person.
