Hi

I'm a web designer who charges my clients a monthly fee, and one has asked me to send them a direct debit request for this. Not sure what this would be exactly and how it should be written out. Any advice or templates would be hugely appreciated!

Hi Scalloway,

I assumed they were both the same thing? I guess it is a standing order. I see you've attached a form from Santander, would I type up one of these forms on behalf of my company or get one of these forms from my own bank?

Thanks

Direct debits allow you to draw money from their bank, very useful if say the amount each month is variable - such as your phone bill.
A standing order is basically an order to send payment at certain intervals for specified amounts.

DD though is covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee, so SO would be more secure as you can't reverse this

My firm collects fees by standing order (not direct debit) and we have no problems in doing so.

We do have a standing order mandate which we give clients but the vast majority of them dont use it now as standing orders are so easy to set up yourself all most people really need is your business bank details ie sort code and account number.
