DESIGNERS - do you call before sending..

Hello design types, just wanted a few opinions really...

I'm preparing my Spring promo mail out at the moment and wondered if I should perhaps phone some of the businesses first to ask them if it would be OK to send a pack through so perhaps they will take more notice of it
arriving BUT will this give them the chance to say no they dont want to a pack sent and then if i hadn't phoned they may of just opened it anyway and liked my work... hmm.. i'm a bit confused as what to do so would like to hear any ideas..

My last promo mail shot was quite successful, (about ten positive responses from 60 and 4 jobs) and i didnt phone first for them

Ask them whether they would 'mind' you sending it.

Not many people (as long as you sound good) would say "er actually yes I do mind"

I would call first and get a name to address it to.
