Hi guys, i'm currently working on a new product for my brand. I've noticed a lot of people sell the same product but there is one variation/design i've noticed which looks brilliant but cannot be branded due to copyright issues.

Do you guys ever use someone to create different variations of products which would then be unique to your own brand? In my case it would need to be designed then made on a CNC machine. I pressume this would be very expensive as ide have to get the manufactuerer to make it just for me?

Main thing is I know the product I want to launch but could do with someone designing a different variation/design to what's already on the market for my niche brand. A lot of brands have things made abroad but i'm not sure how they go about designing? Do they outsource it, have a dedicated team etc.

What is ‘expensive’? If you’re just having a few of something then the initial setup & tooling may seem expensive, but after that it’s about volumes.

Is it a large / detailed / intricate product?

It would be cycling metal products such as the mini tools/pumps etc. Would ideally want a design doing rather than copying from Alibaba as 100s are already selling them and a lot look very cheaply made.

Can find a designer in that field and have the design done. By one person or a team as necessary. Then find someone to produce a prototype - make sure of your item before you buy a container full. First item can be far more expensive than finished model but does allow you to show it directly to people.
Then find someone to produce in full.

Likely have to check that your item is different enough - sometimes you can easily know but its whether others can see the differences if that is going to give you legal problems.

By doing each aspect apart you can access a wide range of businesses to suit each aspect - often the ones capable of handling everything will charge accordingly and usually be a lot less choice of what business you can deal with.

Sounds really good. I'm looking at launching a shopify store for my cycling brand. I used to be on amazon but selling stuff that others did I felt I couldn't be different and wasn't making any money so I stopped.

Problem is I guess some designers charge thousands. I have £1100 for design and first order (ile be storing the stock so wouldn't want too much). Would be looking at 100/200 units to start then obviously keep ordering more. Pressume some manufacturers may want me to order thousands of units if the design is unique to my brand?

There’s no reason why a manufacturer would insist on thousands or nothing. Many small outfits prefer manageable and realistic numbers & would much rather have several smaller customers than two or three big ones (usually a nightmare to deal with for a start!)

Would need the whole thing really with custom packaging which I could outsource and send to manufacturer. Will also add business cards to each order but ile be dispatching so ile add one to each order.

I spent most of my teens riding BMX and bike trials then started selling on Amazon when I got to 30. Now I want to expand and launch my own website for the brand.

Not sure they'd be relevant to you.
My own design, forged product, production sales and marketing done through an all inclusive company, delivery by subcontracting. And some very nice boxes.
And extremely niche markets

Legal side took years to resolve (the biggest bill). And without credit the product could not have been produced.
