I rented a commercial premises and paid a deposit/bond of £1500. The property company who owned the premises went bust and for four months after I paid the rent to a firm of accountants who were the receivers. My lease finished and I asked for my bond back. No joy. Obviously I should have refused to pay the rent or at least the last installment. My lease makes it quite clear that the bond should be repaid at the end of the lease. What can I do

You need to register the debt with the receivers. You should be able to get at least part of the money back. All assets will be equally distributed between the creditors based on total amount outstanding.

Let me know how you get on. We can take care of it all for you if you wish.

Give me call to discuss.

A tricky one.

Unfortuantely current legislation concerning tenancy deposts does not cover Commercial property and only applied to ASTs (assured shorthold Tenancy)

Do you have a receipt of payment for your deposit bond?
To whom did you payment the deposit to exactly?

If you paid directly to the landlord then are are within your rights to chase him/her directly, however if you paid the management agency, things will be a little more complicated and as mentioned above, you will need to contact the administrators.
They should give you a 'POD' proof of debt form to complete, you will need to complete this and attach proof of the debt, i.e. receipt etc etc. Once the Admin team have dealt with the compnay you MAY received some funds back after they have taken their own fees first ...

in past experience be prepared to write-off this money, you could either be waiting for a long time or may not receive anything back. And paying for a company to do the paperwork for you will be fruitless.
