Delete default company in Sage

Hi everyone,

I do the books for 3 companies, however one of them has just been liquidated. The MD has set up a new company in the liquidated company's place. I now need to delete the original company from Sage and replace with the new company (as we only have a 3 company licence on Sage). Every time I click on delete company no. 1 I get the error message, cannot delete default company. I've gone in to the Company file and changed round the order so that company 1 is now in company 2's position but it is still registering as the default company. Please help!

Many thanks

You should use either the ReIndex or Rebuild options in the Maintenance menu. BUT, make sure you take at least a couple of backups of the existing data first, so you can refer back to them if you need to.
Re-Index removes all the transactions but you can choose to leave the supplier, customer accounts etc intact - might save you some time if the new co has the same customer and/or supplier base. I think you might then need to change the company name details etc.
ReIndex will wipe everything clean, but I can't be sure what will happen to the company name details - you might need to change those separately.

ReIndex removes nothing, it simply rebuilds the index file, it is the Rebuild option that allows you to remove data.

As for deleting the default company, you can't but what you can do is take a backup of another company and restire it over the top so that the other company becomes the default company.

Thanks for your advice guys. Much appreciated.

John, sorry I'm a little confused. Do you mean take a back up of, say Company No 3 and restore that over the liquidated default company and then delete the original Company No 3 and then set up the new company?
