I'm looking for a decent dating script for a unique project, can anyone reccomend some dating scripts or a possible way to create a dating website with wordpress etc ?

There are numerous dating 'scripts' out there, whilst it's probably possible to build one on wordpress, it'd almost certainly be more work than starting from scratch if you were going to introduce any kind of unique take on the industry that might increase your chances of success.

I'm not looking for any unique features, just going to try and attract a niche that isn't really catered for. I have searched google many times and there is a vast amount to choose from, its just knowing which ones are decent.

I trawled through 100's of these when looking for a script for a client & ended up writing what the client wanted from scratch. It cost them a bit more but they got exactly what they wanted and it was easier to add features in the future.
All you can do is install demo's, try them out & cross them off your list until you are maybe lucky enough to find one you like.

Perfectly legal, its not an adult website or based on any bizarre fetishes. It is for people with learning difficulties, however its just finding a decent script that could be used easily and it would be mostly non profit.

You could check out osDate (os for open source - free software) - started off quite terrible but with the right theme you can create a not too bad website.

I have been looking into osDate as an option as its free and is pretty decent, have you had experience of this script ?

Your idea sounds good, I was looking into a dating site for midgets and having the name as seven dwarfs. But I was put off the idea by someone who said I have a small imagination.

I have been looking into osDate as an option as its free and is pretty decent, have you had experience of this script ?

I have, many versions ago - the problem with those sort of websites from those scripts is how difficult it is to create a member base to compete with the likes of the small competitors let alone the big market leaders.

Why would anyone join an upcoming dating website with hundred new members (both genders) a week? 100 a week sign up rate would be quite good in itself. Of course, you will get those who give up on the first day and never return

Your concept of a dating script for those with learning difficulties seems a nice idea and as such you aren't looking at competing directly with General, Adult/Casual, Alternative, Gay, or Mature etc. dating websites so membership numbers aren't really a big deal.

I think the key with osDate (some could argue the same with all scripts) is getting a good looking theme - likely to set you back a few quid... but the stock themes (that is unless they have improved over time) are a bit boring and awful.

I would have thought that you would have wanted something specifically tailored to your potential clients. For me I would go for the write your own - it will run faster, be easier to debug and you can get it to do exactly what you want.....
