Data governance- luxury or necessity?

Data governance is no more a luxury but rather a necessity. For an organization to compete and be on the top level, they should acquire a tool/software to help them. Do you agree with this? What are your thoughts?

Yes, all organizations should have data governance to ensure that important data assets are formally managed throughout the enterprise and to ensure that all data can be trusted. With this, we'll have less worries and less problems to encounter.

Shonda. You can buy or develop software, you can spend as little or as much as you like, but you still may not attain a satisfactory or useable level of data governance.
Software and systems are just the tools used to achieve the aim of data governance, whereas data governance itself is born of a workplace culture. There must be in place an information strategy that identifies data types and a policy that determines what happens to data and the information from which the data is built.
If you have a good information strategy and a team capable of strategy execution MS Office 365 is probably the best platform available for implementation.
