Cycling to and from the office?

How many of you guys pay your staff a milage for the above? I've been in touch with quite a few companies that do this with price per mile ranging from 0.25 per mile to about 0.50 per mile.

It sounds like a great idea to me, and as i already encourage them to use public transport when possible by giving them the cost of their transport when they are using public transport, but don't do it for cars. I don't drive so I cycle in every day anyway, and the business centre we're currently in are trying to push it, so i'm trying to establish some sort of policy that would be beneficial to both us and our clients.

Any ideas?

Power to your elbow!

I think that it's a great initiative.

I used to cycle the nineteen miles to work two/three times a week to keep fit, save a little money and help to save the planet.

The rest of the staff thought that I was absolutely bonkers and although maybe nineteen miles each way is a little far for most people, it used to amaze me that people who lived only half a mile away used to take their car. Schemed like this should and would help them to blow the cobwebs off their bikes:)

Yeah it does seem like a good idea, and can go on our green policy, a copy of which I want to put up on our website asap. The only problem with that is that....i don't have a green policy for the company.

Yeah, this does seem to be a sticking point, but in the long run we can rest assured that we're doing our bit for the enviroment I suppose.

Even so, it would be nice to see some tax relief....or redo the contracts and buy your staff a bike if they agree to cycle to work a couple of times a week. That could then be done tax dedcutable i assume.
