CWCS Hosting and Co-Location

Anyone have any experiance with CWCS hosting?

We are thinking of taking a number of servers with them for a new project and wondered if anyone had used them before? Also looking at possible co-location for a rack or two!

We are looking CWCS as it is a fully managed service. Our current provider is really starting to wind me up.

They are overall a reliable provider but their due require contracts (1-3 years sort of thing) with most of their services so as with any provider that requires contracts just make sure they offer everything you require.

Also if you do a Google search they do have a lot of happy customers.

They have a weak network with an active-passive network (just 1 router online, 1 standby) and use old Cisco 7600 series routers. Wouldn't handle much traffic or do well under DDoS...

CWCS offers quality & reliability.Their rates are cheaper and their client service is second to none - prompt, polite and helpful.Their superior knowledge and efficiency is way ahead of the 2 other hosting companies that I deal with.

The contract thing does put me off - they seem to want a minimum of two years - with webhosts two years is a lifetime! [FONT=&quot][/FONT]

Two years is perhaps a bit long, but if you provide a high quality service you expect to make a loss in the first few months and take your profit later. Sounds like that to me.

You say your hosts are incompetent, but at what exactly? Is their network up and down like the proverbial, or is it server support that is lacking?

My suggestion is that you think carefully about your requirements and how they might be met. I suspect that what you need does not fit into the normal pile it high sell it cheap hosting model. 24/7/365 support sounds good, but it's not much help if what you get is a script monkey who knows more about what they cannot do than what they can.

Also looking at possible co-location for a rack or two!

They appear to be hung off the end of an NTL (VM) Leased Line with a backup BT feed - so 20ms and 10 hops away from the majority of the UK internet - not the most common of setups for collocation.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Have taken co-location space direct with one of the main data centre owners rather than use CWCS - and saved a bundle of cash which is a bonus.
