I'm a sole trader trading in organic cotton bags. I source my orders in the UK and have them printed and sewn by my unit in Southern India. I run the unit on an ethical basis, paying the women I employ fair wages and good working conditions.
Lately, every single parcel of mine has been intercepted by the Customs and I have to pay £28 to have them released. Last year it used to be one every 20 parcels or so. But lately, the frequency has increased alarmingly and I am unable to comprehend why. Especially since the parcels are untampered with and I really have no recourse.
My margins are pitifully small and I'm frustrated at having to pay HMRC every time!
